VNC Error!!

VNC Error!!

Sometimes, though you have VNC server running on the Unix/Linus Server still you can see a screen as below:

You will see errors like:

xrdb: A system call received a parameter that is not valid.
   +13  1356-605 xrdb: Can't open display 'cargildb01:1'
+14  _X11TransSocketINETConnect() can't get address for cargildb01:6001: Hostname and service name not provided or found
+15  1356-265 xsetroot:  Unable to open display:  cargildb01:1.
+16  _X11TransSocketINETConnect() can't get address for cargildb01:6001: Hostname and service name not provided or found
+17  twm:  unable to open display "cargildb01:1"

In the log or on the prompt itself. It might say :
xauth: (argv):1:  1356-352 bad display name "cargildb01:1" in "add" command

This is because of the fact that your host name, that is, cargildb01, is not added in the /etc/hosts.
Add this entry with it's IP in /etc/hosts and you are done!!!

  1. I've been in support and IT for many years. And in all that time I've never seen a clearer description of the problem, and the simple solution. You sir, are a genius.
